A partir de hoy, cada tanto, vamos a publicar una entrada de las que denominaremos “Blogtip” cuya finalidad es ofrecer información y consejos útiles para el viajero sobre temas puntuales. Motivado por los comentarios que he leído en otros blogs acerca del servicio de taxis en la ciudad me he decidido por abordar el tema del transporte. En líneas generales, para desplazarse por la ciudad de Buenos Aires y sus alrededores los medios que se pueden utilizar son: el colectivo (bus, ómnibus, micro o como le llamen en otros países); el subte (tren subterráneo); los trenes urbanos y suburbanos; los remises (autos con chofer); las lanchas colectivas y otros transportes acuáticos (en la zona de El Tigre y también desde la ribera norte y la sur hacia Puerto Madero); el tranvía o tren liviano de Puerto Madero y el taxi.
En esta entrada nos dedicaremos al taxi. Existen más de 30.000 taxis sólo en el territorio de la Capital Federal (que abarca menos de la mitad del conglomerado urbano que es Buenos Aires). Los taxis de la Capital Federal son negros y con su techo amarillo. Tanto en ambas puertas delanteras como en un cartelito que ubican en la parte posterior del asiento del chofer llevan grabada su matrícula habilitante expedida por el Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Todos los taxis de la ciudad utilizan taxímetro (aquel aparatito inventado en 1904 por Lois Renault, aunque en una versión algo más moderna claro), esto es importante porque (a diferencia de lo que ocurre en otras ciudades de la región) la tarifa no es negociable sino que surge de la medición del nombrado aparato que calcula el monto a pagar según distancia y tiempo (ojo, además hay una tarifa mínima).
Seguridad:
Hasta hace no mucho tiempo debíamos lamentar hechos delictivos en los taxis. Luego de varios operativos policiales la situación hoy en día está controlada. Uno puede detener un taxi en cualquier punto de la ciudad y subirse sin mayores precauciones. De todas formas existe la posibilidad (a mi entender más segura) de llamar a un Radiotaxi, estos operan a través de un sistema de radio que les avisa a qué lugar de la ciudad deben ir a retirar a un pasajero. Son rápidos, seguros y, en algunos casos, tienen mejores autos que el promedio. Algunas empresas recomendables son: http://www.taxipremium.com/; http://www.radiotaxipidalo.com.ar/.
Tarifas:
Desde el 16 de octubre rige una nueva tarifa de taxis. La ficha ahora vale AR$ 0,52, y la bajada de bandera, que equivale a diez fichas, AR$ 5,20.
Si uno quiere calcular de antemano el valor de un viaje se puede consultar una página chilena muy interesante que calcula el importe del viaje en taxi en varias ciudades de Chile, España y la Argentina entre las cuales se encuentra Buenos Aires, http://www.taximetro.cl.
Hay que tener en cuenta que si el destino al que procura ir queda fuera de los límites de la Capital Federal, dado que el chofer no podrá levantar pasajeros hasta regresar al territorio de la Capital, se cobra un plus. Para estos casos es más conveniente usar el servicio de remises (algunas empresas de radiotaxis ofrecen este servicio) en los cuales la tarifa está estipulada de acuerdo a la distancia pero no se usa taxímetro.
Consejos:
- Procure que el chofer ponga a funcionar el taxímetro (ubicado generalmente en el parabrisas a la altura del asiento del acompañante) al comenzar el viaje, si no lo está hágaselo saber amablemente al conductor.
- Si le es posible, infórmese de antemano acerca del recorrido y hágale saber al chofer que está informado diciendo por ejemplo: ¿vamos a ir derecho por tal avenida o conoce un camino más rápido?
- Trate de consultar la página del tarifario antes y lleve cambio, muchas veces los conductores no tienen cambio y esto puede resultar molesto.
- Trate de no pagar en otra moneda que no sea la local.

I have decided to start with public transport and taxis in particular leaded by some commentaries and wanderings on the subject that I read in other blogs. Generally speaking, in mater of transport in Buenos Aires and its sorroundings you have many options: bus (we call it colectivo); subway (we call it subte); urban and suburban trains, remise (only available by pre-booking, not for hailing on street); the passenger boats and other boating transport (in El Tigre port and also from northern and southern river banks to Puerto Madero); tramway or light rail in Puerto Madero and taxi.
In this entry we will focus on the taxi. There are more than 30.000 taxicabs only taking into account the Federal Capital territory, which comprises less than a half of the total area of the urban conglomerate. Federal Capital taxicabs are painted in black and yellow. You will find the taxi license number (issued by the Buenos Aires City Government) written on both front doors as well as in a label hanged in the back of the driver’s seat.
The use of taximeter (that little device invented by Lois Renault in 1904 but, of course, in a most modern version) is mandatory in every taxicab of the City; this point is important because it implies that the fare is not negotiable (this can be different of other cities of the region), and will be calculated taking into account time and distance automatically (warning: there is a minimum fare).
Safety:
Some time ago we heard about some cases of criminal acts in taxicabs. But fortunately, after the police intervention, the situation is under control. So you can hail a taxicab on street without taking special precautions. Anyway, you also can ask for a radio taxi by phone (I think this option is even safer), they operate trough a radio system which tells the chauffer where to pick up the passenger. They are quick, safe and, in some cases, their cars are in better conditions than the average. Fares:
Since October 16th fares have been updated. Each counter, now costs pesos 0,52, and the minimum fare, known as bajada de bandera, which is equivalent to ten counters, is AR$ 5,20.

Please, take into account that just in case your destination were outside the Capital Federal limits, and as the chauffer is not allowed to pick up passengers until he were back in the Capital Federal territory, an additional fare is charged. So for those cases it will be better to travel by remise (even some radio taxis companies offer this modality), remises charges their fares based in a table of distances and will inform you in advance.
Tips:
- Make sure the taximeter is on, this device is generally placed on the upper right sector of the windshield; if it is not warn the driver politely.
- If it were possible, get some information about the route beforehand and demonstrate your knowledge to the driver, telling, for instance, are we going to take this or that avenue or do you propose a faster way?
- Try to check the fare in the abovementioned website and take some change with you, many times drivers have no change and the situation can became cumbersome.
- Try not to pay in other currency than local.
